What is a solid perfume?

This is a perfume-balm made by combining beeswax, jojoba oil and perfume oil. Our products are not vegan, but we ensure that every material we source has been sustainably harvested.

Why choose a solid perfume by Litrahb Perfumery?

A solid perfume is spill proof, travel-ready and eco friendly.

Litrahb Perfumery does not use plastic containers or packaging for its solid perfumes. The compacts we use are either silver, gold plated or aluminium sample-tins. These can be re-purposed or sent back to Litrahb Perfumery for a refill. Nothing ends up in a landfill or in our oceans. Our products are non-toxic, not tested on animals, and unadulterated without the use of parabens, sulphates, chemical sunscreens.

Why choose our solid perfume over a commercial spray-bottle of Eau de Toilette?

1: Our zero-waste ethos means that we don't utilise wasteful plastic, paper, nylon or cardboard in our packaging. Generally, once consumed, alcohol-based spray bottles along with their expensive outer packaging ultimately ends up in a landfill.

2: Eau de Toilette uses up to 10% of fragrance concentrate, the rest is alcohol. Eau de Parfum, generally more expensive, uses 15%. Litrahb Perfumery uses 40% perfume essence, the rest is beeswax and jojoba oil. Our Parfum de Extrait or perfume oil-concentrate is also formulated in a 40% dilution to 60% jojoba and sandalwood oil..

3: Commercial fragrances are mostly 100% synthetic. Remember, when you buy commercial brands, what you are infact paying for is their marketing campaign and wasteful non-biodegradable packaging.

Why is the silver pillbox not available to buyers outside India?

Until March 2020, we could ship our solid perfumes in precious silver compacts via FedEx with ease. However, following the COVID 19 lockdown, shipping restrictions have gotten tighter, and FedEx refuses to accept any item made of precious metal. Patrons overseas can buy the same perfume formulated in a luxurious base of sandalwood and jojoba oil. This 8ml perfume oil is available in gorgeous hand-blown glass bottles that have been designed and produced by a local workshop in limited editions just for us.

Are your perfumes 100% natural?

Our perfumes are anywhere between 70% to 100% natural. We use skin-safe synthetics in order to add a bounce and longevity to our perfumes. We also do not accept the premise that natural is better than synthetic. Synthetic aroma chemicals have been around since 1868: not only do they infuse magic into a fragrance and flavour formulation, they also reduce the burden on natural resources (and indigenous farmers) and can help avert extinction of certain botanical and animal species.

//The first synthetic perfume was nitrobenzene, made from nitric acid and benzene. This synthetic mixture gave off an almond smell and was often used to scent soaps. In 1868, Englishman William Perkin synthesized coumarin from the South American tonka bean to create a fragrance that smelled like freshly sown hay. Ferdinand Tiemann of the University of Berlin created synthetic violet and vanilla. In the United States, Francis Despard Dodge created citronellol—an alcohol with rose-like odor—by experimenting with citronella, which is derived from citronella oil and has a lemon-like odor. In different variations, this synthetic compound gives off the scents of sweet pea, lily of the valley, narcissus, and hyacinth.//
